Bhante Buddharakkhita Celebrates International Buddhist Day in Japan

On 8th April, 2018, Bhante and Joel (Bhante’s Assistant) joined the global ceremonies in honor of the advent of the Buddha at Sampozan Muryojuji Temple, the head temple of the Nenbutsushu Buddhist Sect of Japan. The ceremony was also graced with the auspicious presence of King Norodom Sihamoni of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Bhante was among the 14 out of 43 representatives to the World Buddhist Summit invited to participate in this commemoration by at the World Buddhist Summit in Japan. Other dignitaries from Canada, Thailand, China, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Australia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia also attended the ceremony.

Further, a Chigo Oneri Kuyo procession of around 600 children aged between 4 to 6 marching on the path to the temple was grandly held. Also, the ritual of pouring water to the statue of a newborn Buddha was observed. Meanwhile, the unveiling ceremony of Sattapanniguha Auditorium and the The Royal Ceremonial Hall were both dedicated to the King of Cambodia in honor of his tireless efforts and commitment to the spread of Buddhism around the world.
